Allesbeste Symposium 2024

Updated: May 8

South Africa's premium annual international avocado event.

Register now for the symposium mailing list to receive your exclusive registration invite as soon as registrations open.

The 12th instalment of this dedicated farmer's and industry information day and its orchard visits promise to be even more exciting. 2023 saw our first return to the Merensky Hall after covid hit in 2020 and what a privilege it was to host over 450 people again. The new panel discussion design kept the audience engaged and it gave us time to invite more collaborators to the stage in this freeform discussion design. Over the past few years the week leading into the symposium also developed into a workshop en field trip design Allesbeste week, that gives smaller groups chance to dig into hot topics in more depth and detail.

Here are some highlights to look forward to in August 2024.

7 August - Symposium day

With ample time to network and rub shoulders with fellow farmers and industry leaders during breaks and meals, we head into our sit down sessions to talk about recent developments in our industry and at Allesbeste specifically. Four main sessions guide our discussions:

Business intelligence and Information technology

With so many data collection points on and off farm, how accurate are our hunches, and what can we learn from information to make our businesses sustainable and keep them competitive.

Marketing, market insights, logistics and cold chain management

Our Peruvian and other competitors are making our market more and more difficult to be competitive in. Where we go they are already. during 2024 Peru already flooded the market during week 14 creating tough competitive conditions. How does Allesbeste mitigate it's risks and what is our strategy to be competitive in the long run.

Nursery and farm production, methods and techniques

Production is an ever evolving environment. We have less access to products we use to trust and some that we still have access to impose risks to us. What are we left to do as farmers, what options do we have going forward? To be competitive in the challenging markets and our challenging logistics environment in South Africa we need to optimise on production, yield and yield efficiencies. What strategies are we left with, how can trellising, high density plantings and cultivar optimisation ensure our competitive edge in the future.

Breeding and Selection

More and more rootstock and cultivar options are getting into the market. What does our commercial research show in terms of their performance. How can the future cultivars and rootstocks ensure our sustainability as farmers? Allesbeste's own cultivars and rootstocks are being tested commercially - how are they performing?

8 August - field trip day

Demonstrations from our main sponsor Husqvarna

Husqvarna as our main sponsor will be demonstrating some of their latest equipment available to our farmers.

Trellis production

With Trellising trials running since 2015, out of season crops, rootstock trails and many more opportunities and challenges, what are we learning? Annually we use the field trips to ease the more conservative growers minds into this new method of producing avocados.

New cultivars and rootstocks

New rootstocks and cultivars are being introduced into the nursery and industry - lets us take you on a tour of what we know and new developments.

Field trials

Allesbeste is currently conducting multiple product trials as replacement for established programmes to determine their efficacy in our production environment. Visit to our trials will give you insights into some opportunities to raise production and rethink your own on farm practices.

Allesbeste week - Workshops and field trips - 5 & 6 August

These days are on invite only and numbers are limited, aimed mostly towards our international guests and those industry participants focused on in depth discussions and that want to take part in workshop and brainstorming events focused on a technical level towards future development of our industry. Topics typically covered during these days are:

  • Nutrient management

  • Breeding, selection and genetics - in depth discussions on results of trial-work.

  • Production developments

  • Nursery visits

  • Other producer and industry participant visits

Numbers are limited for this group. To request your participation please send an email request.

Sponsors and exhibitors

Those who have participated in the past will tell you the Allesbeste Symposium is unlike any other industry event to give your brand visibility and exposure to avocado farmers in South Africa. Unfortunately our main sponsorship is pre-booked by Husqvarna, sorry everyone try again next year - or in a few years. We do however still take on large and small exhibitors and also those that are only interested in having their brand visible with banners or logos during the Symposium. For more information regarding sponsorship opportunities kindly reach out via email.

See you soon!
